Hamsey Tithe Map

Tithe maps and apportionments

Welcome to a voyage of exploration through your parish in 1840 and earlier. The tithe map and apportionment we have used record Hamsey as it was in 1840. For purposes of clarity the tithe map has been re-drawn and cut up into manageable segments. If you click on a segment and then the field numbers you will be able to see details of who owned the land or house in 1840 and access the earlier history of the land.

Modern names for pre-1840 houses are indicated in brackets e.g. H33 Cottage & Garden (Two Ways). Some selected information later than 1840 has been included for general interest.

The land was measured in acres, rods and perches (a.r.p.)
40 perches = 1 rod; 4 rods = 1 acre.
