Wills for Barcombe and Hamsey can be found amongst the records of two probate courts. The local court was the Archdeaconry of Lewes, whose records can be consulted at East Sussex Record Office (ESRO), Lewes and West Sussex Record Office (WSRO), Chichester, where additional probate related material such as Administrations and Inventories can also be found. The national court was the Prerogative Court of Canterbury (PCC), whose records are held at The National Archives (TNA), Kew, which also holds other probate related material.

The Hamsey wills proved in Lewes Archdeaconry had already been transcribed by Dr Annabelle Hughes, who undertook our house surveys, as part of the Hamsey Millennium map project. Copies of her transcriptions of the Hamsey wills can be downloaded here and are also deposited at Barbican House library. A further 33 wills, proved in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury, have been added, of which 21 have been transcribed.
